Bonsai or Bust Expo: A Day of Bonsai and Culture at Heathcote Botanical Gardens

Mark your calendars for an extraordinary day at Heathcote Botanical Gardens, home to the largest public display of Bonsai in the United States.  October 12 & 13 from 9 AM to 4 PM, we are thrilled to present the Bonsai or Bust Expo, a special event in conjunction with our Fall Garden Festival that promises to immerse you in the fascinating world of Bonsai and cultural delights.

Event Highlights:

  • Workshops & Lectures: Dive into the art and science of Bonsai with expert-led workshops and lectures. Our curator, Tom Kehoe, along with other Bonsai masters, will share their knowledge and passion, guiding you through various techniques and practices. These classes and demonstrations require per-registration and some have a fee.
  • Guided Tours: Explore the exquisite Bonsai collection at Heathcote with guided tours, offering insights into the history and beauty of these miniature marvels.
  • Bonsai Photoshoot: Bring your favorite Bonsai for their glamour shot. You will get a digital image of your tree showcasing it’s glory.
  • Vendors: Discover a variety of Bonsai-themed vendors offering everything from Bonsai pots, planting materials, and tools, to Bonsai-related art, apparel, and jewelry. If you’re a vendor interested in participating, complete the vendor application and email it back to us. We’re seeking businesses that align with the Bonsai theme, including those selling Asian-inspired jewelry and products. As well we will have our Fall Garden Festival going on so it will be a full day of fun.
  • Food & Beverages: Savor delicious food and beverages. We’re on the lookout for Asian food trucks to join us for the day. With limited spots available, we will book on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Raffles: Don’t miss the chance to win amazing prizes at our raffle table, featuring donations from our generous vendors.
  • Bonsai show: Enter your prize tree in our Bonsai show you could take home the trophy for Best Small Tree, Best Native or Best Overall!

Admission Prices:

  • FREE admission but we do ask for a $1.00 donation. To participate in some classes or seminars there are additional fees.

Enter our Bonsai Show:

  • Do you have a stunning Bonsai tree that you’re proud of? Enter it in our Bonsai Show at the Bonsai or Bust Expo and compete for the titles of Best Small Tree, Best Native Tree, or Best Overall. With no entry fee and an opportunity to win a trophy, this is your chance to showcase your masterpiece. Judging will be conducted by experts designated by Heathcote Botanical Gardens. Stay tuned for the application details and get ready to share your work of art with fellow Bonsai enthusiasts!

Bonsai Photoshoot:

  • Capture the beauty of your Bonsai with a professional photoshoot at our Bonsai or Bust Expo! Pre-registration is required due to limited slots, so don’t miss this exclusive opportunity. For a fee of $35 per tree you’ll receive a stunning digital image of your Bonsai, perfect for showcasing your tree’s unique beauty.  You will be responsible for transporting your tree to the designated photoshoot area at the garden. Secure your spot and preserve your Bonsai’s charm in a timeless photograph! Photo sign up coming soon! Payment will be due at the time of your appointment.

Are you a Bonsai-themed or related business? We want you! Whether you sell Bonsai pots, planting materials, Bonsai art, or Asian-inspired jewelry and products, you would be a perfect fit for our event. Unsure if your products qualify?
