Concrete stepping stones, which are made from casts of the backs of leaves are useful and ornamental in the garden. On Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Instructor Cheryl Friend will talk about and show some finished stepping stones and then you will each make one or more stepping stones. Concrete material and leaves will be supplied.
Students will need to:
- Provide a ridged, strong form or mold. The best molds are the large saucers that are sold for use under plant containers. Be sure that it is strong and ridged. The clear flexible saucers are not strong enough for use as molds. It is useful, but not essential to have a piece of plywood to support your form and ease transport. Be sure there is room in your card for your stepping stone to lie flat.
- Wear old clothes. The dye in the concrete will stain clothes.
- Bring hand tools, such as a spatula and putty knife, rubber gloves, eye protection, a large plastic bag to enclose the stepping stone for the trip home and plastic grocery bags to cut and cover the stepping stone.
- If you have personal leaves that you want to use, please bring them. Stepping stones can be decorated with shells, beads, glitter, etc.
