Back in February of this year, one of Heathcote’s volunteers showed up in my office with this scruffy looking dog and stated that he needed to go home with me.  I readily agreed and fell in love with him right away.  He is mellow and affectionate in his own way and gets along great with my two cats. His name is Jersey. I adopted him from the Humane Society here in Fort Pierce and they couldn’t have been nicer.  They have a lot of animals looking for homes and Heathcote had decided to help them.

We invited numerous local rescue groups to set up adoption booths at our Dog Days of Summer Event on July 26th, 2014.  Each brought in dogs that were in desperate need of homes and we hoped that our patrons would fall in love, like I did, and adopt these dogs.  Heathcote is the only pet friendly Garden in our area and we have always encouraged our members and patrons to bring their dogs to the Gardens for a stroll.  Luckily, two dogs found their forever homes that day and we are grateful.

There were a lot of fun things to do that day, including, the Fort Pierce K-9 unit doing demonstrations, Fort Pierce Boy Scout Troop 772 giving baths to our patrons dogs that attended.  I don’t know who had the better time, the Scouts or the dogs getting bathed.  All in all a good time was had by all.

My thanks to all who volunteered that day and all who attended.
